I was feeling rather good today so I spent it cleaning the house, including the carpets (yay!) and even washed the new couch covers which were covered in dog hair despite our strict ‘no dogs on the couch’ rule:
It goes along with our strict ‘no dogs in the kitchen’ rule (see last post).
I wasn’t the only productive one. Our happy little layers are up to 10 eggs a day now!
In the dead of winter! Our handy, dandy lighting system is definitely working. I am quickly running out of room to put them all and have been giving them away to family and friends who come by, which I’m sure they appreciate.
Who doesn’t love free eggs?!
Who doesn’t love free chicken, either? We picked up three free-ranged cornish crosses recently and immediately saw why this breed is the best to raise for meat. The hubby butchered one of our Rhode Island Reds with it for comparison:
They were so delicious. We will definitely be ordering a few dozen of these babies in the spring purely for filling the freezer. We’re also adding some quail and pheasant, too, which will be fun (and delicious).
This week we are ordering our dog sled, so we are super excited about that. The dogs will be too, when they realize it’s for them. I’ve been showing them videos of sled dogs and they get excited watching, and even howl at the screen, so I imagine they will be thrilled when it comes and they finally get to do it, too.
We have plenty of winter left for dog sledding fun. Once spring comes we’ll have plenty of time for other things, like painting the front door and planting more lovely flowers! I can’t wait for my flowers to return.
One more sunset down and only 48 more to go until then…
